Manali is a magnet, attracting many tourists from all over the world. Over the years, Manali has come up as a major tourist destination for Indian holiday makers. The city is situated in the central parts of the northern state of Himachal Pradesh, Manali is at the head of the Kullu valley, 280 km north of the state capital Shimla and 108 km from Mandi .It has been popularized as a "honeymoon destination" for newly weds. Hadimba Temple: The Hadimba Devi temple is an important place to visit in Manali. The temple is dedicated to the goddess-turned-demoness Hadimba (or Hirimba), the wife of Bhima. It is said that Bhima fell in love with Hadimba, the sister of demon Tandi, whom he killed in order to marry Hadimba. Built in the 1553, this temple is locally known as Doongri Mata temple.
Tibetan monastery: The colorful Tibetan monastery is famous for its carpet-weaving unit where the residents, the immigrants from Tibet, produce handicrafts of various kinds that attract the tourists towards it.
The Vashisht: Three kms from Manali is the village of Vashisht, which is renowned for its hot sulphur springs. The village is also the site of some old temples, dedicated to the great sage Vashisht, and to Lord Rama. The Himachal Tourism sulphur baths are just beyond these shrines.
Nehru Kund: Nehru Kund located on the Manali-Keylong road at a distance of 6 km from Manali town, Nehru Kund is a calm and peaceful place to visit. The name of the place is given after the first Prime Minister of India, Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru. The place is especially famous for the clean water spring, which is believed to flow from the Brhigu Lake.
Kothi: Located in picturesque setting, Kothi is a place that offers excellent surroundings. Peaceful, serene and full of natural beauty, Kothi is a perfect location to relax and retreat. The place overlooks Manali Valley and the surroundings mountains and forms a popular excursion of Manali.
Solang Valley: Solang Valley (13 kms from Manali) : A beautiful picnic spot. Nice meadows surrounded by Silver Oaks and spurs, offers views of Glaciers and snow capped mountains. It is International Skiing slope with a small ropeway. You can also enjoy Paragliding and Horse riding.
Rohtang Pass: Located 51 Kilometers from the town of Manali, Rohtang Pass is the highest point on the Manali-Keylong road. Army's permission is required to go through this path, which remains open from the months of June to September and promises to treat tourists with breath taking views. Sports activities like skiing are also organized here.
Manikaran: Manikaran (45 km from Kullu at a height of 5700 ft) : Famous for its Hot Springs which is believed to be good for rheumatism, gout, muscular pain etc. The water is so hot that the Dals, Rice etc. can be boiled in it. It is well known Pilgrimage place on account of Ancient Hindu Temple of Lord Ram and a Gurudwara.

White Water Rafting: River rafting is an exciting adventure sport. There is an unmatched thrill of shooting down the rapids. Knowledge of swimming is not necessary but you have to be reasonably fit. The rafting is done on a 9-14 km stretch between Pirdi and Jhidi. Its a full day trip from Manali.
Para Gliding: You can sail high above the ground and see the mountains as never before. Experience the rush of cold air on your face and have a thrill of your life. Guided para gliding can be done from Solang Valley.
Trekking: There are countless trekking routes in Kullu Valley. Most treks are of 2-10 days duration. However you could initiate yourself in the joys of trekking with a one day trek to Lamadugh. This is a light trek of approximately 6 km which even occasional walkers can enjoy. You must have proper walking shoes, jacket for rain protection and carry water & camera.

There is a lot to buy when you are touring in and around Manali. Shopping in Manali is an exciting and thrilling experience. The traditional handicrafts in the region of Manali are very famous among the tourists and foreigners. Anybody will be tempted to buy the locally made various handicraft items of Manali.
All the main markets in Manali are located in the downtown area and around the corner of Mall Street. The shops are well stocked with all kinds of exotic Manali Handicraft articles. There are loads of things to buy when one is in the mood of shopping in Manali. In the beautiful valley of Manali, you will have the choice to buy from either the local Manali markets or the Emporiums that are run by the Government.
The Tibetan markets at Manali and Kullu are famous for imported goods, especially gift items. Tibetan shops near the Post Office in Manali and a few in Vashishtha deal in antiques.
Fresh local juices can also be bought at the production cum sale outlet of Lahaul Potato Society at Raison. Local pickles, juices and dry fruits can also be tried out at the sale outlets of Himcoop on the Mall in Manali & Mohal in Kullu.
