Your day to day itinerary Day 1: Trichy Begin your tour Land Trichy airport/railway station Welcome to Vardhman's "Extensive Tamilnadu Tour". Vardhman's representative will meet & greet you & then will transfer you to your hotel. Freshen up and then proceed to visit Trichy. The Rock Fort Temple: It is the landmark to the city of Trichy. The fort is situated on the banks of river Kaveri. The Rock Fort is located on a massive rocky outcrop that suddenly spurts amidst flat land. The temple that is located 300 feet above the sea level is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The gigantic temple has a 100-pillar hall and a Vimana covered with gold. On the southern face of the rock, there are several beautifully carved rock-cut cave temples of the Pallava period. Sri Rangnathaswamy Temple The Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple at Srirangam is situated 6 kilometers from the downtown Trichy. The temple is one of the most revered shrines that are dedicated to Lord Vishnu in India. It is the largest temple in the world after the famous Angkor Vat in Cambodia. Shrouded in a haze of coconut palms away to the north, the temple is built on an island in the middle of the Kaveri. The temple complex comprises seven rectangular-walled courtyards and as many as 21 Gopurams. The temple contains some of the best rock carvings in India. Jambukeshwara Temple The Jambukeshwara Temple that is situated just 2 kilometers from the famous Srirangam temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temple complex comprises 5 concentric walls and seven Gopurams. The principal deity is the Shiva lingam, almost submerged in water, which flows from the subterranean spring that lies near the main sanctum. Mariamman Temple The Mariamman Temple is located just 10 kilometers from the downtown Trichy. Mariamman is one of the most popular and most visited temples in the Peninsular India. The temple is dedicated to Mariamman, a manifestation of the primeval energy 'Shakti' as the mother Goddess. Local beliefs associate the deity with cures for diseases such as small pox and chicken pox. Overnight: Hotel Day 2: Trichy-Thanjavur (55 kms) This morning after breakfast drive to Thanjavur. Reach and check into your hotel. Freshen up and then visit Thanjavur. Sri Brihadeswara Temple The Chola King, Rajaraja I, built the Brihadeswara Temple in Thanjavur. The temple that was constructed in the 10th century AD is a magnificent example of Chola Temple architecture that was further applied in other cities in the peninsula too. The Palace The Palace of Tanjore stands near the Brihadeswara temple. The Palace is a huge building that has been built through many decades. Nayaks initiated the foundation and primary work of construction around 1550 AD. The Marathas later completed the building during the reign of Peshwas. Hall of Music The Hall of Music is situated in the Tanjore Palace only. This hall is known for its near perfect acoustics and performance stage. The place has seen performances by some of the stalwarts of Carnatic Music in India. Royal Museum Like various other tourist attractions in Thanjavur, The Royal Museum too is located in the Thanjavur Palace complex only. The museum is one of its kinds in peninsular India as it houses mixed collections of manuscripts, weapons, utensils, musical instruments and clothing that were used by the Royal Family of Thanjavur. Schwartz Church Schwartz Church is a living example of religious tolerance of Cholas. Rajah Serfoji built the Church that stands in the Thanjavur Palace garden in the year 1779 AD in token of his affection for the C. V. Schwartz who belonged to the Danish Mission. The architecture is a welcome break from the Chola temple architecture that dominates the city of Tanjore Rajarajan Mani Mandapam Rajarajan Mani Mandapam is rather a modern construction in Tanjore. The conference hall or Mandapam that has been designed on the Chola architecture tradition was constructed to host the World Tamil Conference. It encloses a beautiful park that is worth visiting. Overnight: Hotel Day 3: Thanjavur-Kumbakonam (39 kms) This morning after breakfast drive to Kumbakonam. Reach and check into your hotel. Freshen up and then visit temples of Kumbakonam. Chakrapani Temple The main residing deity at the Chakrapani Temple is Chakraraja. The Chakrapani temple is also a superb exponent of the early temple architecture. The most peculiar point about the Chakrapani temple is that Vilva archana, which is normally performed in Shiva temples, is also performed here for Lord Vishnu . Kumbeswara Temple Kumbeswara is an important Saivite temple situated in the central part of the Kumbakonam town. Shri Adhi Kumbeswara is the presiding God with Manthrapeeteswari Mangalambika as his Consort. The Kumbeswara temple complex is quite enormous and beautiful. The Mahamaham festival, which takes place once every 12 years during the Tamil Month of Masi (February-March), is the main festival. The Mahamaham festival attracts lakhs of pilgrims from different parts of India. Nageswaran Temple Nageswaran Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. Aditya Chola constructed the Nageswaran temple during the12th century. The Nageswaran is a great example of the Chola architecture and astronomy. The Sanctum Sanctorum of the Nageswaran temple is similar to that of Sarangapani temple. Sarangapani Temple Sarangpani is a famous vaishnav temple. It is also known for its tall gopuram (tower). The Chariot festival, which takes place every year, is one of the biggest festivals. Someswar Temple Someswar Temple is located in the southern portion of Sri Sarangapani temple. The architectural style of Someswar temple resembles the Dravidian style of temple architecture of 13th century (Chola period). Airavatesvara Temple The Airavatesvara temple is situated at Dharasuram, 4 km west of the Kumbakonam town. The Airavatesvara (Airavat means white elephant) temple was constructed by Rajaraja Chola and is a superb example of the Chola architecture. Stories from epics and Hindu mythology are depicted all over the temple. Overnight: Hotel Day 4: Kumbakonam-Nagore (69 kms)-Thanjavur (79 kms) to Chennai by overnight train This morning after breakfast drive to Nagore. Reach and visit Nagore. Nagore is a renowned Sufi pilgrimage that is revered by followers of all the religions. After sightseeing drive back to Thanjvur railway station to board overnight +ROCKFORT EXPRES train number 6178 at 2030hrs for Chennai. Overnight: On Board Train Day 5: Chennai Reach Chennai Egmore railway station at 0510hrs and you will be met and transferred to your hotel [Hotels check In time: 12 Noon]. Freshen up and then visit Chennai. Visit Fort St. George, San Thome Cathedral and the museum to see the Art and Bronze Gallery. (Closed on Fridays and Public holidays). High court, Marina Beach, San Thome Cathedral and Snake Park. Overnight: Hotel Day 6: Chennai-Bangalore by day train This morning transfer to Chennai Central railway station to board overnight SHATABDI EXP train number 2007 at 0600hrs for Bangalore. Reach Bangalore CY JN railway station at 1050hrs and you will be met and transferred to your hotel by our representative. Freshen up and then visit Bangalore. Visit Cubbon park, Lalbagh, Tipuâ's fort, Government museum, Venkatappa Art Gallery, Bull temple, Viswesvaraya Industrial and Technological museum, Ganesh temple, Gandhi Bhavan, Ulsoor Tank, Gavipuram Cave Temple, St. Mary's Basilica Church, Auqarium, and a number of other places around the city. Overnight: Hotel Day 7: Bangalore-Srirangapatnam-Mysore (140kms) This morning drive to Mysore (Called Garden city) stands by a rocky hill named after the goddess Chamundi. It is the city of Palaces and museums. On route to Mysore, visit island fortress of Srirangapatnam, the capital of Hyder Ali and his son Tipu Sultan, Tipu's Palace, Gumbaz, Tipu's Summer Palace. On reaching Mysore, transfer to a hotel and visit illuminated Vrindavan gardens and Krishnarajasagar dam in the evening. Overnight: Hotel Day 8: Mysore-Ooty (155kms) After breakfast proceed on a city tour of Mysore. Visit Maharaja Palace built as recently as 1897, which is one of the biggest in India; St Philomena's Church etc.; Sri Jauyachamarajendra Art Gallery housed in the Jagmohan Palace, which has a collection of exquisite paintings, Folklore museum. After sightseeing drive towards Ooty- the Beautiful leading hill resort of south India. Reach and check into your hotel for an overnight rest.
