At the heart of this sacred town lies the <strong>Jalmandir<\/strong>, a beautiful white marble temple situated in the middle of <strong>Kamal Sarovar<\/strong> or Lotus Lake. The temple, built by the Swetambar sect, is surrounded by tranquil waters filled with blooming lotuses and countless birds, creating a serene and spiritual atmosphere. It is believed that after his cremation, his disciples collected the sacred ashes, and due to their great devotion, they started taking away the surrounding soil as well. Over time, this created a depression which later formed the <strong>Kamal Sarovar<\/strong>. To honor his memory, the <strong>Jalmandir<\/strong> was constructed at this sacred spot. Inside the temple, <strong>footprints of Mahavir<\/strong> are enshrined at the center, while those of his two chief disciples are placed on the left and right.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Nirvana_Mahotsav_and_the_151_KG_Laddu_Offering\"><\/span><strong>Nirvana Mahotsav and the 151 KG Laddu Offering<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>One of the most significant events in Pawapuri is the annual <strong>Pawapuri Ladoo Mahotsav<\/strong>, also known as the <strong>Nirvana Mahotsav<\/strong>, which coincides with <strong>Diwali<\/strong>, the day of Mahavir&#8217;s Nirvana. Every year, devotees from across India gather here to participate in this spiritual celebration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A key highlight of the Mahotsav is the <strong>offering of a 151 kg laddu<\/strong> to Lord Mahavir. This massive laddu is prepared with pure ingredients and symbolizes the deep devotion and love of the community. After the offering, the laddu is distributed as <strong>prasadam<\/strong> among thousands of devotees. Nearby stands a <strong>Swetambar Jain Temple<\/strong> made entirely of white marble, and behind it lies the <strong>ancient stupa<\/strong>. Additionally, several other temples in the area include the <strong>Gurgasthan Temple, Gauna Temple, Naya Temple<\/strong>, and the <strong>Samasharan Temple<\/strong>, all of which reflect the deep spiritual roots of the region. Rickshaws and tongas are available for local transportation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pawapuri doesn\u2019t have hotels, but there are several <strong>Jain Dharamshalas<\/strong> for pilgrims. Due to limited accommodation, travelers usually return to <strong>Rajgir<\/strong> for an overnight stay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Exploring_Bihar_Sharif_A_Blend_of_Religions_and_Dynasties\"><\/span><strong>Exploring Bihar Sharif: A Blend of Religions and Dynasties<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>While heading towards <strong>Bakhtiarpur<\/strong> on <strong>NH-31<\/strong>, tourists can stop at <strong>Bihar Sharif<\/strong>, just <strong>12 km<\/strong> from Pawapuri. According to legends, <strong>Lord Buddha<\/strong> once resided on <strong>Pirpahari Hill<\/strong>, and the Chinese traveler <strong>Hiuen Tsang<\/strong> also visited this place. Bihar Sharif houses a <strong>pillar from the Gupta period<\/strong>, adding historical value to the town.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The name <strong>Bihar<\/strong> is derived from the word <strong>Vihar<\/strong>, referring to the <a href=\"https:\/\/vardhmanvacations.com\/blog\/web-stories\/famous-buddhist-monasteries-in-india-spiritual-retreats\/\">Buddhist monasteries<\/a> built by <strong>Gopal<\/strong>, the founder of the <strong>Pala dynasty<\/strong> of Bengal. The term <strong>Sharif<\/strong> was added later, in honor of the 14th-century Sufi saint <strong>Pir Mukhdum Shah<\/strong>, also known as <strong>Sharif Admi<\/strong>. An important site for interfaith pilgrimage here is the <strong>Mazar of Malik Ibrahim Baya Saheb<\/strong>, which is visited by people of all religions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"How_to_Reach_Pawapuri_and_Nearby_Attractions\"><\/span><strong>How to Reach Pawapuri and Nearby Attractions<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>From <strong>Rajgir<\/strong>, tourists can take <strong>conducted tours<\/strong> that include <strong>Nalanda and Pawapuri<\/strong>. Alternatively, one can travel by <strong>service bus<\/strong> to visit <strong>Nalanda, Bihar Sharif, and Pawapuri<\/strong> in a single day. For better route planning, it is advisable to go to <strong>Nalanda first<\/strong>, then proceed to <strong>Bihar Sharif<\/strong>, and finally reach <strong>Pawapuri<\/strong> before returning to Rajgir.
