According to legend, a devout Brahmin had pledged to provide all the necessities for the Thiruvona Sadya (a feast held on the Thiruvonam asterism) to be delivered to the Aranmula Sree Parthasarathy Temple using a boat called the Thiruvona Thoni. However, the boat was attacked by enemy factions during its journey.
