8 Days Highlights of Yunnan Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Singapore – Kunming

Begin your journey by assembling at Singapore Changi Airport for your flight to Kunming, the capital of Yunnan Province. Often referred to as the “City of Eternal Spring”, Kunming is known for its pleasant climate and blooming flowers all year round.

Upon arrival, meet your local guide and transfer to your hotel for check-in. Enjoy your first evening in China with a welcome dinner and some time to relax after your journey.

Day 2: Kunming – Dali – Lijiang

After breakfast, embark on a scenic coach journey to Dali, a charming town nestled between the Cangshan Mountains and Erhai Lake. Following lunch, explore Shuanglang, a serene lakeside town renowned for its breathtaking views and relaxed atmosphere.

A highlight of the day is a visit to Sun Palace, the exquisite lakeside villa of famed Chinese dance artist Yang Liping, located on Yuji Island. We’ve exclusively arranged a delightful afternoon tea experience at the villa, featuring a cup of coffee, a curated dessert platter, and traditional preserved plum snacks. As a special keepsake, each guest will receive a hand-drawn pattern printed silk scarf.

Later, continue your journey to Lijiang, where you’ll check in and unwind at your hotel.

Note: During peak travel periods such as the Chinese Summer Holidays and Golden Week, the afternoon tea at Sun Palace will be replaced by a visit to the picturesque “Awaits Wind Sea View Café” at the S-Bend. There, you’ll enjoy one cup of coffee and one dessert per person. Bicycle rentals are available for a romantic ride along Erhai Lake (rental fees not included).

Day 3: Lijiang – Jade Dragon Snow Mountain – Lijiang

After breakfast, begin your day with an unforgettable excursion to the spectacular Jade Dragon Snow Mountain Scenic Area. Board the Glacier Park Cable Car, the highest in China, which ascends to an altitude of 4,500 meters. Along the 2,900-meter route, you’ll witness breathtaking alpine scenery, including ancient glaciers formed over 40,000 years ago—revered as the “Green Snow Peak.” The enclosed six-seat gondola offers a comfortable and panoramic ride through this glacial wonderland, with views of stunning valley, bowl, and hanging glaciers.

Next, visit the enchanting Blue Moon Valley, known for its turquoise waters and dramatic mountainous backdrop. A tram ride is included for your convenience and comfort.

You’ll also enjoy the acclaimed open-air performance, Impression Lijiang, directed by the renowned Chinese filmmaker Zhang Yimou. Set against the majestic snow-capped peaks, this live show features local performers and presents the rich ethnic culture of the region.

For lunch, savor a Snow Mountain Scenery Hotpot, a hearty and warming meal perfect for the alpine climate.

In the afternoon, explore Dayan Ancient Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its traditional Naxi architecture, winding stone lanes, and picturesque canals. Stroll through the charming Four Square Street, a lively hub that captures the spirit of Lijiang’s old-world charm.

After dinner, return to the hotel for a well-deserved rest.

Note: In case of severe weather or technical issues that lead to the closure of the Glacier Park Cableway, the excursion will be adjusted to Yunshanping Cableway. No compensation will be provided for the change in itinerary.

Day 4: Lijiang – Shangri-La

After breakfast, embark on a scenic drive to the mystical highland city of Shangri-La (formerly known as Zhongdian), nestled on the edge of the Tibetan Plateau. Famous for its breathtaking landscapes and rich Tibetan culture, Shangri-La is often referred to as the “Last Paradise on Earth.”

Upon arrival and after lunch, visit the majestic Ganden Sumtseling Monastery, the largest Tibetan Buddhist monastery in Yunnan. Also known as the “Little Potala Palace,” this 17th-century monastery is home to over 700 monks and showcases stunning Tibetan architecture and sacred relics.

Next, immerse yourself in the local culture with a visit to a traditional Tibetan family home, where you’ll be welcomed with Tibetan snacks and gain insight into the daily lives and customs of the Tibetan people.

Continue your journey with a walk along the exhilarating Echo Wall Aerial Walkway and the glass observation deck, which offers breathtaking views of the canyon below. With a vertical drop of over 1,000 meters, it’s one of the highest observation platforms in China—perfect for those seeking both beauty and thrill.

Explore Bala Village, a secluded settlement that remained isolated from the outside world for centuries, and gain insight into the traditional way of life preserved by its residents. You’ll also visit the serene Nyethang Drolma Temple, home to twenty-one life-sized statues of Tara, the female Bodhisattva of compassion and protection.

This journey through the Shangri-La Grand Canyon promises unforgettable views, spiritual sites, and a true connection to the mystique of the region.

Enjoy lunch at the scenic area and return to your hotel in the evening. Conclude your day with a buffet dinner at your Shangri-La hotel before settling in for a restful night.

Day 6: Shangri-La – Shaxi Ancient Town – Dali

After breakfast, travel by coach to the enchanting Shaxi Ancient Town, one of the few remaining ancient market towns on the historic Tea Horse Road. Often described as “the place where the wind blows,” Shaxi is a beautifully preserved cultural gem that offers a window into Yunnan’s vibrant trading past.

Explore some of the town’s highlights, including the charming Vanguard Shaxi Bai Nationality Bookstore, often dubbed “China’s most beautiful bookstore.” Continue to the Poetry Tower, the Thousand-Year Market Temple, the Ancient Theater, and the iconic Yujin Bridge. These landmarks create an atmosphere steeped in history and poetic charm.

For a delightful local experience, be sure to stop by Grandma A’Rui’s Shop to taste her famous persimmon cakes, loved for their soft texture and natural sweetness. Enjoy a relaxing coffee break at quaint spots like Go For Tea or Windy Bistro.

After lunch, proceed to Dali, a city known for its stunning scenery and rich Bai minority culture. Upon arrival, explore the Dali Ancient City, a lively area with traditional architecture, boutique shops, and Foreigner’s Street, known for its blend of local and international culture. Day 7: Dali – Kunming

After breakfast, depart Dali and return to Kunming, the capital of Yunnan Province and fondly known as the “City of Eternal Spring.”

Upon arrival, take a stroll through the historic Qianwang Street, a century-old avenue that offers a vivid glimpse into the charm and legacy of old Kunming. Discover iconic landmarks such as the Wine Glass House, the 100-Year-Old Fulin Hall, and the Ma Family Compound—each telling stories of Kunming’s rich cultural heritage and notable historical figures.

Enjoy a relaxing break with a cup of Yunnan-style milk tea from CHAGEE, a local favorite known for its fragrant blends and smooth taste.

In the evening, savor a delicious Yunnan mushroom hot pot dinner, a specialty of the region that features a variety of fresh, wild mushrooms in a flavorful broth.

Check in to your hotel and enjoy a restful evening in Kunming.

Day 8: Kunming – Departure for Singapore
