Begin your adventure from Guwahati and travel through scenic river valleys and rising mountain landscapes. The route gradually climbs into the Himalayas, leading you over one of India’s highest motorable passes before reaching the serene town of Tawang.

Tawang Monastery, more than 300 years old, is the largest monastery in India. Its golden roofs shine over the valley, creating a majestic sight.
Inside, the rhythmic chants of monks fill the halls with peace. The monastery stands as both a spiritual sanctuary and a cultural jewel, offering a deep look into Buddhist tradition and Himalayan life.
At an altitude of 13,700 ft, Sela Pass is one of the most dramatic crossings in the Northeast. Snow often carpets the mountains, adding to the breathtaking views.
Beside the pass lies the picturesque Sela Lake, gleaming turquoise in summer and turning icy white in winter. According to legend, the pass is named after Sela, a Monpa woman known for her courage and sacrifice.

Begin your journey early in the morning from Guwahati, heading towards the mountains of Arunachal Pradesh. The road gradually shifts from plains to lush green hills, offering a refreshing start to your trip.
Travel via Tezpur and proceed toward Bhalukpong, the official entry point to Arunachal Pradesh. Here, your Inner Line Permit (ILP) will be checked before you continue deeper into the state.

If time allows, make a short stop at the Tipi Orchid Research Centre, home to thousands of rare and vibrant orchid species.

Your highlight of the day is the majestic Sela Pass, standing tall at 13,700 ft. Snow often blankets the pass, adding to its otherworldly beauty. Right beside it lies the stunning Sela Lake, shimmering blue in summer and frozen beautifully in winter.
Continue onward to visit the Jaswant Garh War Memorial, a powerful tribute to Rifleman Jaswant Singh Rawat, whose bravery in the 1962 Indo-China War is still honoured by the Indian Army.
Before entering Tawang, stop at the breathtaking Nuranang Waterfall (Jang Falls). Its roaring cascade surrounded by lush greenery is one of the most picturesque sights on the route.
