Walking in one of the most beautiful valleys in the Garhwal region, in the Har - Ki - Dun valley, is the ultimate dream of each beginner. The Har - Ki - Dun trek that goes along in the arm of Fateh Parvat displays the virgin beauty of the Garhwal Himalayan region. The valley takes the shape of a cradle and passes through the wilderness of the Govind National Park, which is popular for its rich variety of flora and fauna. The trek smites the pulses of school children and elderly people alike and is thus considered as one of the easy to moderate treks in the Garhwal Himalayan region. The valley acts as the base for several mountaineers who travel to the summit of many peaks in Himalaya. Despite being a low altitude valley, having a maximum elevation of 3,566 meters, one can't help but get enchanted by the beautiful Bandarpunch range in the south-east horizon. The valley is also the subject of a legendary myth which likely originated from the Mahabharata; one can also discover temples at villages like Osla, Gangar and Seema.
The Har - Ki - Dun Valley Trek that commences from Sankri is a 5 days trek in the Garhwal Himalayan region. The trail from Sankri passes through a dense forest and goes along the river Rupin followed by the river Supin and leads off at Taluka. From there, the journey turns to Osla, which is at an elevation of 2,560 meters and winds upwards through a beautiful forest of Chestnut, Walnut and Willow trees, and continues to the village of Gangar. From Osla the trail heads up to Har Ki Dun en route the untamed waters of river Rupin and steep ascend to Kalkatti Dhar. Upon reaching the Har Ki Dun vicinity one can explore the ambiance of the Morinda Lake and take in the heavenly sight of the majestic peaks like Kala nag, Bandarpunch and Swargarohini. The deception of distances will prompt one to go right towards Swargarohini and Jaundhar glacier or left towards Borasu pass, as everything looks within a stone's throw! The huge and picturesque valley is flanked by massive mountains on three sides, and the valley floor is covered in soft grassy patches.
The Har - Ki - Dun trek, which is one of the easy to moderate treks in the Garhwal Himalayan region is perfect for beginners and can be undertaken all throughout the year. But the best time is the summer season as the valley turns out to be a Photographer's haven.
