High Altitude Trek
Fringed by some of the little - known 6 thousanders in the Garhwal Himalayan range, the Jogin group of peaks at 6,466 meters, Sphetic Pristwar at 6,905 meters, Barte Kauter at 6,579 meters and Kirti Stambh at 6,902 meters, the Khatling Glacier at an altitude of approximately 4,200 meters is certainly a surreal destination that one could even dream about. It's not only just about the snow-capped towering mountains and shifting moraines but the trail leads to the vicinity that is further enriched by several glaciated lakes like Masar Tal and Sahasratal. Further, the journey towards Vasuki Tal, which is approximately 8 kilometers up from the shrine of Kedarnath, one of the remotest Hindu pilgrimage sites of the Char Dham Tour, passing through the rich alpine bed that is embellished with wide range of wild flowers, the most prominent being the Brahma Kamal, woos the heart of travellers and bustles their eyes capturing the grandeur of nature. The Khatling Sahasratal Trek, without any doubt is one of the best picked alpine treks in the Garhwal Himalayan region. Walking on the glaciated tracks, cutting through several streams and passing through the wilderness of the forest simply defines each and every letter of adventure in the Indian Himalayan region. Moreover, the Khatling Glacier, which is the source of River Bhilangana that holds a legendary myth of a divine spirit, Bhilangana and Lord Shiva, dominates the vicinity with its lateral feature.
The trek to Khatling Sahasratal is approximately of 16 - 17 days that originates from Malla, which is 25 kilometers drive from Uttarkashi. The route from Malla heads to Sillachhan at 2,040 meters, which is a 9 kilometers of easy trail. From Sillachhan the gradual ascend takes you to Kushkalyani, which is approximately 11 kilometers of uphill trek. From Kushkalyani en route a vast alpine meadow the journey maneuvers to an altitude of 4,040 meters to Kyarki Khal. Hence one can expect the tough trek with steep climbs from Kushkalyani to Kyarki Khal. Thereafter, the narrow, rocky, and crazy pave leads to Parital via the Kyarki Bugyal, one of the alpine and remote meadows in the Garhwal Himalayan region. From Parital the trail slows down a bit due to steep ascend and one or two days of acclimatization. The journey from Parital commences towards Sahasratal at 5,000 meters approximately and thence winds to Kharsoli at 2,896 meters via Kalyani at 2,683 meters. The trail encounters several uphill and downhill treks and hence going to be bit strenuous. From Kharsoli the uphill trek starts towards Tambakund and leads off at Khatling Glacier at 3,717 meters. Thereafter the trek heads to Masar tal and thence to Vasuki Tal. Later the journey descends to Kedarnath and leads off at Haridwar via Kham Bugyal, Reka Bugyal and Chaumasi.
