Milam Glacier Trek is a stunning adventure in the high Himalayas of Johar Valley, Pithoragarh, Uttarakhand. The trek takes you through charming Bhotiya villages and offers a glimpse of the rich local culture. The glacier sits at 4,250 meters and is the source of the Gori Ganga River. It also holds historical importance from the Indo-China War of 1962.
The trek begins from Munsiyari (2,200 meters). Road access now extends up to Rilkot (3,130 meters), making the trek more accessible and less crowded. From Rilkot, the trail climbs to Martoli Village (3,380 meters), famous for its stone houses and panoramic views of the Nanda Devi peaks.
Next, trekkers reach Milam Village (3,450 meters), the last inhabited village before the glacier. The final stretch takes you to the majestic Milam Glacier, surrounded by snow-capped peaks and pristine Himalayan landscapes.
The ideal time for Milam Glacier Trek is summer (May–June) and autumn (September–October). During these months, the weather is pleasant, and the trail is clear for trekking.

The adventure begins with an early morning pickup from Kathgodam. You’ll drive through scenic landscapes, passing Almora, Bageshwar, and Birthi Falls, enjoying stunning views of the Himalayas along the way.
By evening, you arrive in Munsiyari and check into your hotel. The trek leader will hold a briefing session to discuss the trek route, conditions, and challenges, preparing you for the journey ahead.

After a relaxed morning, drive 45 km to Rilkot (approx. 3 hours), an important stop on the Johar Valley route. Enjoy a freshly prepared lunch upon arrival.
Post-lunch, embark on a short 3 km trek to Martoli Village (3,380m). This ancient Bhotiya settlement offers breathtaking views of Nanda Devi and surrounding peaks. Explore the old stone houses and soak in the local culture and heritage.

Start early in the morning with a packed lunch for the trek. The trail follows the Gori Ganga River, passing through lush meadows and wooden bridges.
Enjoy stunning views of Hardeol (7,151m) and Trishuli (7,074m) peaks along the way. By early evening, arrive at Milam Village (3,450m), the last inhabited village on the route.
Overnight stay in a homestay or campsite, experiencing the rustic charm of this traditional Bhotiya settlement.
Begin early in the morning for the trek to Milam Glacier (4,250m), the origin of the Gori Ganga River. The trail offers breathtaking views of glaciers and high-altitude meadows (bugyals).
Spend time exploring the glacier and soaking in the serene landscape before trekking back to Milam Village by early evening.

After an early breakfast, start the return trek to Rilkot. The trail descends gradually, offering plenty of chances to enjoy the scenic beauty of Johar Valley.
Reach Rilkot (3,130m) by evening and overnight stay at a guesthouse or campsite.
After breakfast, take a scenic drive back to Munsiyari (2,200m). Enjoy the comfort of your hotel stay after several days of trekking.
The evening is free for local sightseeing or relaxation.

This day acts as a buffer for any delays during the trek. If time allows, you can take an optional hike to Khaliya Top (3,500m), a scenic viewpoint near Munsiyari.
Enjoy expansive meadows and stunning Himalayan views before returning to Munsiyari for an overnight stay.

After breakfast, drive back from Munsiyari to Kathgodam in a shared vehicle, concluding the Milam Glacier Trek. Enjoy the scenic landscapes one last time before reaching Kathgodam by evening for onward travel.
