Overview

Snow View Trek

You being an adventurous traveller, often seek to woo the Himalaya during the frigid winter season. The climate and thick bed of snow stands not as an obstacle but a challenge to undertake and assay a journey to capture the enrapturing horizon of blue sky melting over the snow clad peaks. Talking about the snow winter trek in the Garhwal Himalayan region, the Chandrashila Summit Trek during the winters is your right pick. It is one of the easy to moderate treks in the Indian Himalayan region that is located in Uttarakhand and stretches from an elevation of 2,680 meters to 4,000 meters, winding up at Chandrashila peak that is approximately one kilometer up from the highest Shiva Temple in the world, the Tungnath Temple. From the summit one can feast his eyes on the spectacular view of the Himalayan peaks like Nanda Devi at 7,817 meters, Trisul at 7,120 meters, Kedar at 6,831 meters, Bandarpunch at 6,316 meters and Chaukhamba at 7,138 meters.

The journey commences from Chopta valley and turns to Tungnath Temple, which is one of the holy sites of Panch Kedar. The entire trail has to be done over a thick bed of snow and it passes through the snow ridden forest, colourless and barren YET serene and tranquil. From the vicinity of Tungnath temple a further ascent of an hour terminates atop the Chandrashila summit wherefrom one can capture the silvery sheen of the Himalayan range dotted with several peaks and also of the entire valley blanketed by snow and deep gorges. Keeping aside you madness, the Chandrashila peak holds several Hindu myths and legends with one of the rumors being that Lord Rama meditated at Chandrashila peak after defeating the demon-king Ravana. Thus the Chandrashila Summit Trek during the winter season is a journey of madness, spirituality and adventure.
