If one has come to the Himalaya to hike across high passes and vast tree-covered mountainsides, one will be spoiled for choice in Lahaul and Spiti region of Himachal Pradesh. The old trade route to Ladakh and Tibet may have been tarmacked, but most of this remote and spectacular region is still only accessible on foot. Its trails, though well frequented in high season, are long, hard and high, punctuated by few settlements, so be ready for this unending exploration journey!
This is one of the most remote and challenging treks, crossing passes as high as 18,300 ft. We follow ancient trade routes still used by the nomadic herdsmen of Changtang. Spiti has only been opened to foreigners since 1993, Travel with the experts!
Catch the flight for Leh in the morning. Meet our representative in Leh airport and transfer to the pre booked hotel. Relax and be acclimatized, as it is necessary to be accustomed to weather at such high elevation. Explore the beautiful market of Leh in evening. Overnight stay in hotel.
After reaching Delhi, meet the representative of TMI and transfer to the pre-booked hotel. Overnight stay in hotel.
This day is meant for relaxing. Drive to Manali by AC Volvo in the evening at 18:00 hrs. It is an overnight journey.
Reach Manali by morning at 08:30 hrs. After reaching Manali, meet over representative and check in the hotel. Take rest this day. Overnight stay in the hotel.
Travel over Rohtang Pass by jeep. This pass is the doorway to Lahaul. Afterwards, keep traveling over Kunzum La to Losar, which is the first village in Spiti Village. Reach Kaza by jeep. Kaza is the modern capital of Spiti. After reaching Kaza, check in the hotel. Overnight stay in hotel.
This day is kept for expedition. Drive to Dhankar Monastery after breakfast. It is the former capital of Spiti and positioned above the junction of Pin and Spiti rivers. After this, continue towards Tabo Gompa, which is one of the greatest artistic treasures in Himalayan Area. Explore paintings and sculptures, which are more than 1000 years old. After visiting this area, drive back to Kaza for overnight stay.
On this day, we will drive to Kibber Village, popular as world's highest village and has electricity & daily bus service. En route, visit Key Monastery. On reaching Kibber, check in the guesthouse. Take rest and visit Kibber Monastery. Stay overnight in guesthouse.
Walk in the local areas of Kibber, to Tashigang and Gete. These are the two villages among the highest permanent hamlets on this planet. Come back to Kibber for night stay.
Trek to Pangrochen, which is the last camp before Parang La.
Trek over Parang La (5577 meters) and dip down the beautiful Parang Glacier to the charming oasis of Kharsa Gongma.
Trek down to the valley of Pare Chu River to Tarang Yogma.
Keep transverse down the Pare Chu, cross the river and reach the camp at the broad oasis of Norbu Sumdo.
Trek all the way to Kiangdam positioned on the southern bank of the Mountain Lake Tso Moriri
Take rest amid the fascinating environs of Kiangdam.
Embark on a trek to Korzok. It is a village and Gompa at the northern bank of the lake
Trek across several large nomadic encampments to Gyama over Gyamsharma La
Trek over the low ridge of Harlam Konka to a small hamlet and Gompa of Nuruchan.
Trek to Tso Kar, which is one of the outstanding lakes of the Changthang plains.
Over Tanglang La (5328 meters) to Leh by jeep.
Today, you will go for visiting some of the ancient monasteries in this area.
One such site is Shey Gompa. It is placed 15 kilometers from Leh. Shey used to be the summer capital of Ladakh kings. All around this place are positioned numerous Gompas and Stupas. Deldyan Namgyal erected this palace in 17th century. 12 meters-long Shakyamuni Buddha statuette positioned inside the Dresthang Gompa is the eminent attraction of Leh.
Positioned near Shey, Thiksey Gompa is placed at the distance of about 17 kilometers from Leh. This structure is said to be one of the most dazzling monasteries in Ladakh and it belongs to Gelukspa order.
Situated at about 45-kilometer distance south of Leh, Hemis Monastery is one of the most admired and largest monasteries in Ladakh. This monastery belongs to Drukpa Order. Founded in early 17th century, the monastery concealed in gorgeous valley is encircled by streams and fronted by large Mani Walls. Savor the relaxing overnight stay at hotel.
Catch the morning flight to Leh from Delhi. On reaching Delhi, arrive at the international terminal for further journey.
